In 2010, Faentia Consulting founded a specific business unit for Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering services dedicated to the design of equipment, machineries, operator panels, installations and digital products and products in general user-friendly, safe, easy and quick to maintain.
For us "Ergonomic Design” of a product means to take Human Factors into account ever since the earliest stages of the design process.
We therefore apply the standards, data and methods of Physical and Cognitive Ergonomics to take into account the variability of users, work and manoeuvring spaces, the work rate, the physical and cognitive workload expected from the users, and more generally, the overall user experience and interaction.
We are often asked by our Customers to support them in (re)-designing their production lines. For us, these are always interesting challenges in which we assist designers to both assess the current situation and identify and design adequate protective measures to reduce or eliminate the risks to which operators are exposed.
The goal is to ensure greater productivity and efficiency for the production system - also depending on the existing working conditions and operator interaction with the system itself.
Faentia Consulting has chosen to make available, within its Ergonomics Business Unit, Certified European Ergonomists who represent the highest standard of professionalism required in this field. Working with Eur. Erg also enables us to issue Certificates of Conformity as a result of Audits for the Assessment of Product Conformity to specific standards applicable to Ergonomics.
The Certificate shows that a product has been designed by putting end users into the focus of design efforts in order to ensure their wellbeing thus guaranteeing optimum user/product system performance.
The Ergonomics business unit is involved in providing support for and developing Industry 4.0 - IoT projects. Our contribution in this case consists in applying the standards, data and methods of Cognitive Ergonomics to the design of the User Experience (Ux - User Experience) and of the Interfaces (Ui - User Interface) of the Web-Apps that Faentia Consulting creates in collaboration with JOON Ltd.
Our application software is designed to be user-friendly, thus easy to learn and remember, efficient and safe to use.
Their use allows the various corporate levels to access data from the machine/system even remotely, everywhere-anytime, via notebooks, tablets or smartphones each time that this is necessary, in order to evaluate the performance of the production system in real time and make strategic decisions accordingly.

Sectors: Aerospace, Defence, Automotive
Our method is based on Human-centred design activities:
-
identification of our Customer's goal/requirement
-
analysis of the context of use of the product/service (analysis of users, their physical and cognitive characteristics, skills, experience, analysis of their objectives and tasks, analysis of environmental characteristics)
-
specification of the requirements arising from the users and context
-
processing project solutions according to requirements (in this phase, for example, the cost-efficiency analysis and a functional allocation are carried out to determine who within the scope of the man-machine system performs certain functions)
-
evaluation of the project solutions on the basis of requirements
-
check and design iteration - if necessary
Sectors: Industrial
Our method includes:
-
introduction to General Principles of Ergonomics for the managers involved in the project
-
observation and evaluation of the production process with operator interviewing
-
identification of improvement actions and measures
-
implementation of the improvement measures, following a "participatory" analysis, with support for the development of action plans on the basis of priorities and cost-efficiency considerations
-
training supplied to operators involved in the production process
-
submission of a questionnaire, prepared by Faentia
The project results are presented on the multimedia Faentia Ergo Tool, created internally by Faentia Consulting.
Sectors: Industry
Our method includes:
-
visiting the Customer for viewing the product and collecting data
-
writing a technical report
-
meeting at the Customer's for the presentation of the final results
-
issuing a certificate signed by our Eur. Erg.
If requested by our Customers, who are usually international market players and therefore have strong product-applied ergonomic study requirements, we issue Certificates of Conformity for products made in Italy.
If there isn't an applicable standard for a specific product designed in Italy, we perform a Product Conformity Audit by evaluating a set of combined Italian, European and international standards - only taking into consideration those parts that are applicable to the product.
